Jammu in no mood to surrender

The imbroglio in Jammu and Kashmir doesn’t seem to end. Though the state government has already cancelled the forestland allotment to Sri Amarnath Shrine Board in the wake of massive protests by different separatist organizations in the valley, new forms of struggles and violences are being reported in Jammu.


The incident has certainly emboldened the, once dwindling spirits of, Hindu organizations and has urged them to exploit the situation at best. This led to the rise of violence, arson and ignominy but at these times the Hindu leadership led the stone pelting and violent mobs.

 

The worsening condition of state administration prompted the state authorities to extend the already imposed curfew to the entire Jammu city.

 

It is to be noted that on the day before the Jammu district administration had imposed curfew, especially, in areas coming under the jurisdiction of three police stations of Muthi, Bakshi Nagar and Rehari. The day of violence, on the very day before, witnessed in large numbers, teargas shelling, repeated baton charges and police resorting to firing at the protestors. This resulted into the injury of 80 people, including 25 policemen. However, the three injured protestors who received serious gunshot wounds were hospitalized and the condition of two of them is stated to be serious.

 

It is to be noted, that to a section of Hindu leadership this was the result of general frustrations of Hindus and proves that their patience is almost on the brink.

To the statement of the Inspector General of Police K Rajendra there had been the deployment of an indefinite curfew, police and also paramilitary Central Reserve Police in some selected areas. 

 

In the wake of this, the Hindu nationalist party BJP has given a call for Bharat bandh on 3 rd July as a mark of protest against the cancellation of the land allotment order to the SASB.

 

Now with the calming down of the fissiparous and trigger-happy movements in the valley there is a hope that normalcy will return. But with the deteriorating condition of Jammu, under the auspices of the Hindu organizations protesting against the hapless and reprehensible attitude of the government, there may be an extensive flare up of religious animosity in the coming days.
